Value Tech Ltd is a subsidiary to Value Engineering Ltd & was set up by Tim O Riordan in 1995. Prior to that Tim O Riordan had set up Value Engineering Ltd in 1985. He is looking forward to celebrating 40 years in business in April of 2025.
Value Engineering Ltd was primarily involved in manufacturing high quality engineering products for the mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical and food processing industries in both Ireland and United Kingdom. However, with the emergence of low cost Eastern European economies becoming more accessible for Irish & UK companies, Value Engineering Ltd. was beginning to find it more difficult to compete with this new competition.
Prior to setting up Value Engineering, Tim O Riordan had worked for a business manufacturing electro-hydraulic equipment in various management capacities. During this period indeed prior to even going to college & joining the workforce Tim was keenly interested in all types of machinery and spend many a school holidays driving tractors and operating machinery in the family’s small farm near Macroom.
So it was that interest in machinery that paved the way for setting up Value Tech Ltd. A chance visit from a couple marketing graduates from Smurfit School of Marketing in Dublin while on work experience programme sponsored by Enterprise Ireland resulted in the acquisition of manufacturing rights for truck mixer mounted conveyor namely the Moffett Mixveyor.
Over the next period Value Tech Ltd sold this equipment in Ireland UK and North America with great success. This business proved very worthwhile both from the aspect of utilising the free production capacity caused by reduction in orders for sub contract components lost to low cost economies but more importantly open up new opportunities in the concrete and materials solutions businesses.
Over the next number of years Value Tech Ltd became the dominant business in the group investing substantially in R & D. A sole dealership agreement for Ireland for concrete machinery was signed with Liebherr Mischtecnik GMBH & niche engineering products to compliment the high quality but relative expensive Liebherr mixer were developed These included lightweight and telescopic truck mixer conveyors, telescopic drop chutes, swop body systems & Semi-trailer mixers. This expansion in sales and product portfolio necessitated a larger premised and so the company relocated to its current location near Kanturk in North Cork in 2008. This site comprises a factory premises of 4000 sq meter on site of approx. 35,000 sq meters.
The timing of the relocation & associated investment proved somewhat problematic as the economy almost immediately went into recession which severe impact particularly in construction sector. Value Tech Ltd responded by immediately cutting costs & diversified into developing equipment used in material recycling sectors. These new products assisted in the survival of the business through the recessionary period.
With the return of economic growth Value Tech Ltd reverted to its core business in the construction machinery sector. A new distribution agreement was put in place with HMF cranes Denmark to representative them in Ireland and in more recent times Value Tech Ltd were appointed Irish distributors for Terex ProAll Volumetric mixers. The company continues to respond to market requirement by developing new products and systems that substitute for the ever increasing shortage of labour in the construction and materials handling sectors and the necessity to develop mechanical aids and utilise new technologies to increase productivity in the sectors.
